Beatrice Shultz Yates, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2022. Born to the late Juanita and Alfred Shultz in Paterson, NJ, Bea was raised in Candler, NC before moving to Columbia, SC and marrying her late husband, John Brown "Jack" Yates, Jr.

Bea was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cherished friend, and Daughter of God. She was widowed at a very young age and dedicated her life to raising her three young children. A true wonder woman, she not only led her family as a single mother, she also had a fulfilling career as a supervisor at the Department of Social Services from which she retired later in her life.

Bea modeled how to lead a life of faith and exhibited a true selfless love to her entire family. Her love for her family is felt just as strong in her absence as it always was in her presence - this love serves as such a source of comfort for her family she left behind on her journey to Heaven.

Bea is survived by her three children, Lesa Yates Failla (Douglas), William Allen Yates, and Sheila Yates Pope (Richard), all of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Matthew Douglas Failla (Heather), Ashley Pope Anderson (Gerrard), Brandi Pope Ross (Hamp), Megan Failla Simpson (David) and Lindsay Catherine Pope, all of Columbia, SC; five great-grandchildren, Evelyn Anderson, Yates Anderson, Sophie Simpson, Lucy Simpson, and Eleanor Pope.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock, Thursday, July 14th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 until 7 o'clock.
