Ben Hoyt "B.H." Glenn, 89, of Columbia, died Saturday, May 10, 2014. Born in West Columbia on June 20, 1924, he was a son of the late Ben Harold Glenn and Frances Marie Lynch Glenn. Mr. Glenn was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the Guadalcanal Campaign and the Solomon Islands with the 96th Chemical Composite Company, Americal Division. He was a member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge #94, Lake Murray Woodmen of the World, and the Disabled Veterans of America.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary Martin Glenn; sons, Phillip Dean Glenn (Rena) of Orange Park, FL, and Michael Hoyt Glenn (Donna Ruth) of Middleburg, FL; daughters, Carolyn Marie Payne (Keith) of Gastonia, NC, and Donna Claire Glenn Holley (Doug) of Columbia; grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Melanie, Chad, Paula, Sarah, Claire, and Mary Louise; as well as nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents Mr. Glenn was preceded in death by a brother, Melton Samuel Glenn; and sister, Doris Glenn; and son-in-law, Charles Allan Tinsley
A graveside service with military honors for Mr. Glenn will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, May 14th at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the Platt Building at Spring Valley Baptist Church from 12:30 until 1:30. The Patriot Guard Riders will escort the funeral procession to Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
