Bernard Lee Catoe, Jr., 93, of Columbia, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died Jan. 30, 2018. Born June 24, 1924, in the Mt. Pisgah community of Kershaw County, Mr. Catoe grew up in Columbia. He married the late Opal Holloman, after returning from service in Europe during World War II. Mr. Catoe fought at the Battle of the Bulge and was stationed in Berlin after the Axis surrender. He and his wife reared three children: Debbie Thomas of Greenville, the late Burney Catoe, and Mark Catoe (Barbara) of Columbia. Mr. Catoe and his wife owned and operated several businesses in the Columbia area.
The family would like to thank Palmetto Health Hospice, Daybreak, the staff at the Waterford, Dr. Leslie Stuck, Dr. Rodney Rhinehart, Dr. William Babcock, and Dr. John Wofford and their staffs for their care.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be held Monday, February 5, at noon at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
