The Rev. Bernard Knight, 90, of Elgin, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012. He was born in Dorchester County, SC on April 11, 1922. Bernard served in the US Navy during World War II and went on to found the Richland Wrecking Company, which he operated until his retirement. An ordained minister, Rev. Knight served various churches throughout South Carolina to include Park Street and Three Fountains Pentecostal Holiness Church. He currently attended Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a member of the SC Conference of The International Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his son, Anthony Bernard "Tony" Knight of Elgin; grandchildren, Heather Leeann Monroe of Myrtle Beach, Robbie Talton of Columbia and Melody Dixon of Florida; as well as 8 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Rev. Knight was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Proveaux Knight; and his daughter, Augustus "Gussie" Knight Talton.
The funeral service for Rev. Knight will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, October 27th, at Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2290 Heath Pond Rd, Elgin. Bishop Greg Amos, The Rev. Paul Miles and The Rev. George Cashwell will officiate. Rev. Knight will be placed in the church at 10 o'clock. Fellow ministers of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will be held at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 until 7 o'clock, Friday evening. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
