Mrs. Betty L. Bloom, 93, of Columbia, SC, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. She leaves behind her family, her church family, a host of co-workers, and friends made and kept throughout her long life. She was born in West Columbia, SC (formerly New Brookland) on April 29, 1930, the oldest daughter of the late Charles Henry Lee and Elizabeth Hare Lee. She was one of 6 siblings and 5 step siblings.

Betty was a life-long and faithful member at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where she taught and attended Sunday School, was a member of the choir, and held multiple church offices for more than 70 years. She especially enjoyed music, singing, and teaching. She was a devoted servant of the Lord whose life had a positive impact on many.

She spent most of her professional career at Richtex Brick where she enjoyed her work and cherished relationships.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara A. Bloom and Jean B. Graves; son-in-law, Jennings "Sonny" Graves; grandchildren, Jennings L. Graves and Alex B. Graves; great granddaughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Graves; and sisters, Katherine Grooms and Mattie Chavious.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William A. "Buck" Bloom; siblings, Charles "Buck" Lee, Kenneth "Kimbo" Lee, and Doris Wise; and all her step siblings.

The family wishes to acknowledge her Heart of Hospice team, Olivia, Shelly, and Kim, as well as her Assisting Hands caregiver, Jenny, for their devotion and support in her care.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, in honor of her church family; Pawmetto Lifeline, in honor of her beloved rescue cat, Happy; Harvest Hope Food Bank; The Alzheimer's Association; or the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 7, from 4 until 6 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC. The family will also receive friends at Mt. Pleasant UMC an hour prior to the service. The funeral service will be held Monday, April 8, at 11 o'clock, at Mt. Pleasant UMC, 736 Camp Ground Road, Columbia, SC. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant UMC Cemetery following the service. The funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Ralph C. Young, pastor of Mt. Pleasant UMC, assisted by Rev. John Jordan, pastor of Trinity UMC in West Columbia.
