Betty Jane Abbott Dooley, 87, of Elgin, died Monday, October 24, 2016. Born January 23, 1929 in Willis Branch, WV, she was a daughter of the late Charles Albert and Louise Wilson Abbott. Mrs. Dooley, known for her compassion and generosity, was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a faithful member of Spears Creek Baptist Church where she enjoyed the friendship shared with the Rejoicers Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband of more than 65 years, Dixie Edward Dooley; daughters, Debra Dooley Williams (Gordon), Rose Dyar Livingston (Bobby); sons, Randy Dooley (Jo), Tom Dooley (Angie); grandchildren, Michael Chavis, Jennifer Chavis, Scott Dooley (Mary Beth), Steven Dooley (Beth), Chris Dyar (Ashlee), Michelle Livingston, Tony Dooley (Megan), Sean Dooley (Savannah), and Kayla Dooley; sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 4 o'clock, Thursday, October 27th, at Spears Creek Baptist Church, with The Rev. Greg Sweet officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Wednesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
