Betty Jean Hardin, 88, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022. Born on May 8, 1934, in Stanley County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late William Travis Shaver and Eunice Thompson Shaver. Betty was a humble servant of God and lived her life serving her Savior and sharing the love of Christ. A caring, godly woman, she touched and blessed the lives of many. She was a long-time member at Dentsville Baptist Church for over 60 years and most recently at Jackson Creek Baptist Church in Columbia.
Betty was the loving wife to SSG Richard Norman Hardin, Jr, US Army (Ret.) for a total of 71 years. Throughout their marriage, they enjoyed singing, square-dancing, and bowling together. As well as outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, and waterskiing. Betty was a talented cook; she is fondly remembered for her famous banana pudding. She was a kind, loving soul and will be dearly missed.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Michael Dean Hardin (Taffy); three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Darlene Carter; and 16 siblings.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hardin will be held at 10 o'clock on Thursday, December 1st, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. Burial to follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9 o'clock, at the funeral home.
