Betty Reisch Smith, 92, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Born in Augsburg, Germany, on May 1, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Leonhard and Maria Fischer Reisch. Mrs. Smith began her life in Germany as a seamstress and met her husband, Willie O'Dell Smith while he was stationed in her hometown while in the US Army. They were married in 1958 and together they returned to the United States in the early 1960's. Columbia, SC, later became home for them as they raised their family and attended Woodfield Park Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as an amazing woman, a loving mother and for her strength, humility and kindness.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara "Barbie" Smith Pate; son, John L. Smith; granddaughter, Savannah Hulme (Brent); great-grandchildren, Gabriel Hulme and Jaxson Hulme; her beloved Smith-Turner in-law's, nieces and nephews; and special friend, Justin, all of whom she loved so dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie O'Dell Smith; and daughter, Linda Smith Branch.

There will be a private family graveside service for Mrs. Smith at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
