Betty Overcash Yount

Betty Overcash Yount, 93, formerly of Chapin and most recently of Florence, died on Friday, July 31, 2026.

Born in Salisbury, North Carolina, on May 4, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Grover Leon Overcash and Elise Mae Cartin Overcash.

Mrs. Yount devoted many years to Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), serving as a teaching leader in Denver, Colorado, and later as an Area Advisor in Atlanta, Georgia.

In 1995, she and her husband, Rev. Bob Yount, became members of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. Together, they also ministered to the alumni of Columbia International University.

In her later years, Mrs. Yount faithfully led a Bible study at Laurel Crest Retirement Community for 13 years. She then became a resident of Laurel Crest in 2014 before moving to Florence to live with her daughter. Of all the roles she filled throughout her life, the one she cherished most was being "GiGi."

She is survived by her children, Bob Yount, Jr. (Gail) of Centennial, Colorado; Becky Yount Harrison (Keith) of Florence, South Carolina; Beverly Yount Thompson (Gregg) of Indianola, Mississippi; Bill Yount (Hart) of Palm Springs, California; and Brenda Yount of Leesburg, Virginia; as well as 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert "Bob" Elmer Yount, Sr., and her sister, Norma Overcash Adams (Perry) of Salisbury, North Carolina.

The funeral service for Mrs. Yount will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, in the Smith Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. David H. Lauten and the Rev. Joseph Crump officiating. A reception will follow in Jackson Hall at the church, after which a private family burial will be held in Elmwood Cemetery.

Active and honorary pallbearers will be Josh Harrison, Robert Thompson, Jonathan Thompson, Blake Yount, Ryan Hudson, Damien Craft, David Budler, Luke Stafford, Ryder Hudson, Ross Hudson, Josh Budler and Sebastian Coombs.
