Obituary

Beulah Monroe Bowen, 91, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Saturday, January 17, 2015. Born on April 12, 1923 in Blaney, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Gillyard Percival and Pearl Goff Monroe. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of more than 72 years, Murdic Bowen. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family and is also survived by her three daughters, Beverly Nates (Larry), Glenda Morris (Mike, deceased), and Lynn Nelson (Mike); six grandchildren, Gina Nates Henderson, Kristin Nates McGee, Kim Morris Gaines, Lisa Morris Dutton, Seth Nelson, and Zachary Nelson; ten great-grandchildren, Zack Henderson, Dina Henderson, Caleb Henderson, Cody McGee, Halie McGee, Hannah Gains, Sydney Gaines, Maggie Dutton, Emma Dutton; a sister, Marian Brown; brothers, Delano Monroe, and John Monroe; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Beatrice Brown, and Oneida Johnston; and brother, G. P. Monroe, Jr.

Beulah was the second of seven children born on their family farm near Pontiac, SC. She attended Pontiac Elementary School and graduated from Dentsville High School in 1939. After graduation she attended and graduated from Draughon's Business College. Beulah retired from the Citizens and Southern National Bank after 38 years of service. She was a lifelong resident of the Pontiac community and was a member of Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served for many years as treasurer and Sunday school teacher.

The funeral service for Mrs. Bowen will be held at 2 o'clock, Tuesday, January 20th at Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church with The Rev. Paul Miles and The Rev. George C. Cashwell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church, Women's Ministries, 2290 Heath Pond Road, Elgin, SC 29045.
