Billy “Bo” Vernon Galliher, 89, of Blythewood, died on Friday, March 27, 2026. Born in East Stone Gap, VA, on December 21,1936. He was a son of the late William Cowen Galliher and Verna Bray Galliher.
Billy grew up in East TN in the small town of Bluff City on the Holston River where the river bank was his playground and the mountains were the background. After high school and marriage, he moved to Johnson City with his wife and daughter while getting his Bachelors Degree from East Tennessee State University (ETSU). He was a member of PHI SIGMA KAPPA Fraternity. The family moved to Athens, GA while he pursued a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia.
His career in Social Work began soon after in Savannah, GA. The next career move brought the family to Columbia, SC where he worked at the South Carolina Dept. of Social Services and ultimately became the Director of Staff Development and Training until his retirement. Bo spent his entire life helping others and especially his family, friends, and his church.
Bo loved to sing, hum or whistle and was always doing one or the other! He was a choir member at Trinity United Methodist Church. His love for singing brought him to be a member of a Barber Shop Quartet through the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, SPEBSQSA. Bo’s other hobbies included a love of vintage Mustangs, making unique items with wood and cooking for family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Patsy Moncier Galliher; daughter, Mitzi Galliher Lanford; grandchildren, Evan Lanford, Hannah Lanford; Sister, Judy Galliher Wright (Nick); Many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother, Walter Galliher; sister, Virginia Galliher Lane.
The service for Mr. Galliher will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 90 Boney Road, Blythewood. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in The Fellowship Hall. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
