On June 26, 2017 the loving hand of God, reached down from the heavens to pluck an angel from this earth and take him on his final trip.
Billy L. "Bill" Brown, 67, of Columbia passed away unexpectedly leaving behind the fond memories of his winning smile, kind heart, and giving spirit to be Forever treasured by those who knew and loved him.
Bill was a son of the late William A. Brown and Patsy T. Thompson (Robert L. Thompson, Sr,). Upon retiring after 30 years of service with Palmetto Baking Company, Bill continued to work part time with Dollar General. He enjoyed traveling to many car shows and was also a member of several car clubs. He loved spending time with his family, especially his great granddaughter. Always being there for friends and neighbors with a helping hand brought Bill a great source of satisfaction. It has been said by many that he was a friend to all and a stranger to none.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Deborah A. Brown; son, Carter Brown (Christine) of Lugoff, SC; daughter, Melonie Hallman (John); two grandchildren, Shelby and Jay Hallman; great granddaughter, Olivia Hallman, all of Bethpage, TN; sisters, Cindy Coleman (Billy) of Mullins, SC, Susan Burroughs (Danny) of Swansea, SC, and Patricia Stafford (Roger) of West Columbia, SC; and brother, Robert L. Thompson, Jr of Blythewood, SC. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday, July 1st at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Rd Ext., with The Rev. Karen Radcliffe officiating. Entombment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 2603 Two Notch Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
