Obituary

Blanche Jines Bryan passed away peacefully November 19, 2022. She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1927 to Ellena Lovett and Joseph Wheatley Jines.

"Jinx", as she was known to all, attended Northwestern Louisiana State University, was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and after graduation, flew for the Chicago and Southern Airline as a stewardess. Based in Memphis for the airline, she met and married the love of her life, the dashing young OB/Gyn resident, Williams McIver "Billy'' Bryan. They settled in Columbia and were active in many organizations. Jinx served her life-long spiritual home, Trinity Cathedral, as a Daughter of the Holy Cross, Lay Pastoral Care Ministry, Sunday School teacher, Altar Guild member, cradle rocker, and kitchen helper. She was a docent for the Columbia Museum of Art, Sustainer of the Junior League, and founding member of the Dianthus Garden Club. She was a member of Forest Lake Club, the Quadrille, the Columbia Medical Auxiliary and the Columbia Ball. Jinx and Billy were avid Gamecock fans, regularly attending home games with dear classmates, for nearly 60 years. Jinx enjoyed hosting parties large and small at home, gardening, spending time with grandsons and later, entertaining close friends at Kiawah Island for many years.

Her kindness and charity were genuine, serving her Lord for its own reward. Jinx opened her heart to friends and strangers alike, and lovingly set an example for her children and her children's children.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Billy Bryan, Jr.; by brother, Milton Leon Jines of Carmel California; and a stepson, Williams McIver Bryan III, of Charleston. She is survived by her brother, Shirley Victor Jines of Gonzales Louisiana; sons, Thomas Charles Bryan II (Barbara), James Simons Bryan (Janice); and by daughter, Barbara Bacot Bryan. Surviving grandchildren are Williams McIver Bryan IV (Annie), Thomas DuBose "Bo" Bryan, M.D. (Frances), Jimmy Lee Turner M.D., Williams Matthew Bryan, and James Austin Bryan. Also surviving are her two precious great- grandchildren, Blanche Ann and Helen McIver Bryan.

"Well done, my good and faithful servant".
