Bobbie J. Hale Martin, 90, of Columbia, passed away and entered her heavenly home on Monday, January 13, 2025. Born on September 21, 1934, in Belton, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Cody Hanley and Mary Ann Rebecca Buffington Hanley. Mrs. Martin was a long time member of Alpine Baptist Church followed by active membership at Gantt Street Baptist Church. She was a dedicated servant of God and enjoyed a variety of church activities, giving her an opportunity to serve, fellowship and worship with others. As a volunteer of the Rock of Ages Ministry, she devoted her time to revival crusades and ministering to women in local prisons.
Mrs. Martin retired from JB White Department Store following many years of loyal service. As a military spouse, she traveled to Air Force bases across the U.S., including her favorite location in Fairbanks, Alaska, before settling in Columbia. She enjoyed cruising and other travel, as well as family vacations and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She attended many ball games, piano and dance recitals, school programs and other sporting events, supporting and cheering on her grandchildren. An avid cook and baker, her Sunday dinners brought great joy to many.
Survivors include her children, Debra Jo Davenport of Virginia Beach, VA, Maxie Ray "Max" Hale (Darlene) of Woodstock, GA, Rebecca Ann "Beckie" Johnson (Steve) of Blythewood, and Mary L. "Lori" Richbourg (John) of Leesville; grandchildren, Steve Acker, Jr., Beckie Perkins, Jana Riddel, Michael Hale, Jessica Hale, Mary Catherine Johnson, Tara Richbourg, and Dylan Richbourg; as well as her great grandchildren, Cody Perkins, Noah Perkins, Holly Acker, Simon Acker, Jameson Riddel, and Jonny Riddel.
She also leaves behind stepchildren, Gayle Sox, Curtis Martin, and Kim Case; step grandchildren, Greg Martin, Jason Martin, Corey Martin, Makayla Brown, Makenzie Case and Mary Case. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Vester Ray Hale and A.G. Martin and her siblings, Willie Mae Bruce, Lucille Cummings, R.C. Hanley, M.C. Douglas Hanley, and Curtis Hanley.
The funeral service for Mrs. Martin will be held at 11 o'clock, Friday, January 17th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia, SC. The burial will follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC.
The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 10 o'clock.
