Bobby Lee Estes, 88, of Winnsboro, SC, passed away at his home on January 14, 2016.

Born in Camden, on February 5, 1927, he was the 4th son of Thomas Jefferson Estes and Lois Lee Tinsley Estes. He moved to Winnsboro at a very early age, where the family was in the furniture business.

Bobby graduated Mt. Zion Institute, attended the University of South Carolina, joined the Navy and was Plank Owner and Radarman aboard the USS Juneau II, training for the invasion of Japan when the war ended in 1945.

Bobby was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Juneau II Association, The American Legion, and a Charter member and former President of the Fairfield Country Club. He retired as Postmaster in Winnsboro.

He was a talented athlete, loved the outdoors and all creatures, reading, crossword puzzles and singing the old songs and getting together with family, friends and neighbors. He was a gentle man and always a gentleman.

He was devoted to his wife of 63 years, Evon, and their daughters, Lee and Alison. He is also survived by his nieces, Beppie Jeanette LeGrand, and Lee Pope Walker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Audrey Estes Pope; and three brothers, Defaux, T.J. and Billy Estes.

The family will receive friends at 11 o'clock, Tuesday, January 19th at First United Methodist Church, 109 West College Street, Winnsboro, with a funeral service to follow at 12 noon. Interment to follow in the church cemetery on Washington Street. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, Columbia, is assisting the family. Friends may call at the family home, 730 Timberlane Circle on Lake Wateree.
