Obituary

On December 15, 2023, our beloved mother Bonnie Jo Holton, 69, was called home to be with Jesus. She was born on September 25, 1954, in Pompano Beach, Florida, and as a little girl, with her dear brother Richard by her side, she moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she grew up to become a loving mother to her children and friend to everyone she met. She left her much-loved North Carlina to be a Navy wife for thirty years, continually serving military wives and families across the country while with great care raising her children. She touched lives, from the Carolinas to New England, across to Washington State and California, and back to the south in Memphis, Tennessee, leaving in her wake the southern charm she was so proud of.

Her faith was her foundation in life, and you would find her highlighted Bibles and her notebooks scattered around her home, each filled with her handwriting, capturing her thoughts, prayers, and reflections. Her continuous prayers covered her two children who she raised with loving devotion and her grandchildren she adored. She leaves behind her son, Micah Holton, married to Mandy Holton, and her daughter Sarah Amos, married to Mathieu Amos. She constantly spoke with pride of her six grandchildren – Luciana Holton, Madisyn Amos, Anna Claire Holton, Jackson Amos, Sydney Amos, and Grayam Holton.

Her other loves included The Blue Ridge Mountains, the seashores of the Carolina and gulf coasts, and her puppies who were right by her side until her final breath. Throughout her life she was often found in the kitchen where she loved preparing from scratch meals and desserts for all to enjoy. She loved every person she met and was known to give loving hugs to people she just met that was remembered by them years later. While we are sad, we no longer can feel her embrace, we are overjoyed knowing that she is now being fully embraced by her Heavenly Father with a love beyond our comprehension. We are eternally grateful to have been blessed by her life and that God blessed her with those loving arms like His that brought so much love into our lives. As we move forward without her physical presence, we'll hold onto the example she laid before us in clinging tightly to Jesus.

A Celebration of Life for Ms. Holton will be held in the mountains of North Carolina at a later date. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
