Bonnie Beamguard Wheeler, 87, of Columbia, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012. Born March 8, 1925 in York County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Jackson Beamguard and Mattie Lineburger Beamguard.
Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was active in Girl Scout Leadership in Charleston. She was a member of Incarnation Lutheran Church where she served on the original Child Development Center Committee, was President of Incarnation Foundation Board, a member of the Church Council, and was active in making banners at the church as well as church kneelers. She was also a member of the SC Synod Social Ministry Committee.
Mrs. Wheeler is survived by her husband of 63 years, Owen Wheeler; daughter, Jennifer Ann Wheeler of Vernon, CT; a sister, Betty Burgess of Camden; brother, Charles Beamguard of Clover, SC; numerous extended family and a close family friend, Barry Chernoff of Haddam, CT. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wheeler was preceded in death by brothers, Claude and Earl; sisters, Mae, Rebecca and Martha Jackson.
The funeral service for Mrs. Wheeler will be held at 11:30 o'clock, Monday, August 13, 2012 at Incarnation Lutheran Church with The Rev. Dr. Mary W. Anderson, The Rev. Dr. James A. Parham, III and The Rev. Dr. David A. Donges officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church parlor beginning at 10:30. Memorials may be made to Incarnation Lutheran Church Child Development Center, 3005 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
