Mr. Boyd L. Sawyer, Jr., 82, of Columbia, died February 22, 2021. Born April 3, 1938, in Dillon, SC, he was a son of the late Boyd L. Sawyer, Sr. and Elizabeth Christmas Sawyer.

Mr. Boyd worked in collections for Baptist Hospital for many years and attended North Trenholm Baptist Church. A member of Masonic Lodge #344 in Eau Claire, Mr. Boyd was a former president of the Optimist Club and enjoyed NASCAR racing and USC football. He coached softball and football. Though he was not a hunter at heart, he enjoyed the many aspects that it created with friends. Mr. Sawyer never missed an opportunity to socialize with friends, often playing pool.

Mr. Boyd is survived by his former spouse and lifelong partner, Mrs. Diane W. Sawyer. Survivors also include his son, Boyd "Trey" L. Sawyer, III (Laura); daughters, Mona K. Sawyer, Suzy Workman and Leah Hucks (Adam); grandchildren, Ashley, Tori, Conor, Georgia, Tessa, Brayden, Isabella, Elissa, and Elijah; greatgrandchildren, Danika, Zaria, and Aries; siblings Sidney Sawyer and Sara Shepherd. The memorial service for Mr. Sawyer will be held 4 o'clock, Wednesday, February 24th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with the Rev. Joe Copeland officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 3 o'clock.
