Brant McDowell Smith, 74, of Columbia, died on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. Born in Gastonia, NC, on July 13, 1950, he was a son of Billy M. and Nellie Winn Smith.

In High School, Mr. Smith was in the Marching Band at Dreher High School. He graduated from North Greenville Junior College as well as attended Georgia Southern University before earning his bachelor's degree in business from the University of South Carolina. Over the years, Brant worked in various careers, always displaying a strong work ethic. He was a NASCAR enthusiast as well as an avid angler who loved to fish while vacationing at Pawley's Island, SC or at the lake in Beech Mountain, NC.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Ping Jun Zhang; daughter, Brantlee Elwell (Dale); grandchildren, Caleb Elwell, Andrew Elwell (Jayleine), Hannah Elwell, and Hope Elwell.

The funeral service for Mr. Smith will be held at 10 o'clock, Monday, December 30th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 9 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
