Bruce Laverne Hall passed away peacefully at his home in Blythewood, South Carolina, on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. Bruce was born on July 13, 1957, to John Stewart Hall and the late Connie Gunter Hall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie Brooks Hall.
In 1975, Bruce graduated from Richard Winn Academy in Winnsboro, SC and immediately began his first full-time job with Blythewood Oil. In 1976, Blythewood Oil was purchased by Larry Sharpe. Larry insists that Bruce taught him everything he needed to know about how to run Blythewood Oil. On February 5, 1979, Bruce began a 27-year career as a firefighter with the Columbia Fire Department. Bruce worked his way up to Captain and retired on March 31, 2006. Along the way, Bruce formed many close relationships that he continued to enjoy since his retirement.
Bruce was a true outdoorsman and an avid dog lover. He had many as pets throughout his lifetime. Bruce also enjoyed watching birds, especially hummingbirds, and had many feeders in his yard.
In addition to his father, Bruce is survived by step-son, James Garrett Hall (Kimberly); step-grandson, James Brooks Hall; sister, Cheryl Hall Henegar (Chuck); nephew, Keith Henegar; sister-in-law, Lisa Brooks and special companion, Kelly Flowers.
The memorial service for Bruce will be held at 2 o'clock on Wednesday, December 21st, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock.
