Calvin Clayton Kelly, 60, of Columbia, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Born in Columbia on November 19, 1952, he was a son of the late Alva VanBurin Kelly and Myrtle Christine Lewis Kelly. Calvin trained in Tokyo, Japan as a mechanical engineer and retired from Matsushita. Mr. Kelly was a member of Nine Forks Baptist Church in Dakersville, NC. Around town, Calvin Kelly was better known as "Mr. Mistletoe". Each year he would harvest and sell mistletoe in the Garner's Ferry area. Calvin would donate his proceeds to local organizations around the Midlands such as Girl Scout Troops and the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance. In his spare time, Calvin could be found in the Singuindale Vineyard tending to his yearly crops. His favorite of all was the grapes as he used them to make his own wine. Family and friends knew him as a man who put his heart into everything he did.
Survivors include his daughters, Linda Patrice Murrell of Columbia, and Christine "Christi" Kelly Davis of Columbia; grandchildren, Kasey Murrell, Victoria and Law Davis; a sister, Bonnie Jean Morris of West Columbia; brother, AG Kelly of Eastover. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Hoyt Kelly.
The family would like to thank special friend, Mark Land as well as the doctors, nurses and staff of Palmetto Health Baptist who tenderly cared for Calvin daily.
The funeral service for Mr. Kelly will be held at 2 o'clock, Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 at Elmwood Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 501 Elmwood Ave, Columbia. The family will greet friends in the Mausoleum Chapel, prior to the service, beginning at 1 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
