Carl H. Scalf, Sr., 85, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024. Born in Wise County, Virginia, on May 2, 1938, he was a son of the late William Burdine Scalf and Velva Elizabeth Rogers Scalf.

Mr. Scalf was a humble servant of God and lived his life serving his savior and sharing the love of Christ. A caring, godly man, he touched and blessed the lives of many. Mr. Scalf was the loving husband to Mrs. Mary Magdeline Martin Scalf for 48 years. The two were devoted, long time members of Midway Independent Methodist Church, where they were the very first couple to marry in the church.

Mr. Scalf had a successful career as a truck driver for Saia LTL Freight. He loved his job and refused to retire until the age of 74. Mr. Scalf enjoyed fishing, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is fondly remembered for his over the top, funny personality and always sharing the best stories.

Survivors include his children, Carol Cranfield (David) and Carl Scalf, Jr. (Tammy); "Youngin," Wanda Triguero; grandchildren, Michael Scalf, Matthew Scalf (Maria), Ryan Scalf, David Cranfield, Jr. (Allison), Nicholas Cranfield (Samantha), Haley Dews (Wes), Kelsey Johnson (Andrew), Joseph Triguero, and Justin Triguero (Briana); great-grandchildren, Marek, Maddox, Everett, Evan, Waylon, Samuel, Howie, Lily, Serenity, Maggie, Anastasia, Buck and Maya; siblings, Linda Scalf, Charles Scalf, and Joe Scalf; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Coy Scalf, J.B. Scalf, Larry Scalf, Doris Gorman, Sue Hollis, and Jean Burke.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Scalf will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, March 30th, at Midway Independent Methodist Church, 8481 Old Percival Road, Columbia, SC. Burial will follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC.
