Carol Louise Newton, 58, of Columbia, died Monday, June 15, 2020. Born November 14, 1961, in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Chief Master Sergeant George L. Newton, US Air Force (Ret.) and Margaret J. Thomesen Newton. Carol was employed as a legal assistant at Gallivan, White, & Boyd, PA in Columbia. She was a member of Shandon Baptist Church. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
Carol is survived by her six siblings, Michelle Tyler (Ken) of Columbia, Senga R. Veale (Tom) of Hiram, GA, Tracy A. Martin (Ron) of Savannah, GA, Colonel Michael S. Newton (Penny) of Montgomery, AL, Rebekah D. Mallory (John) of Warner Robins, GA, and David F. Newton (Geoff) of Atlanta, GA; nieces, Bailey Farnell, Emma Veale, Olivia Newton, Haley Ensle, Rachel McCommon, and Sarah Mallory; nephews, Jason Tyler, Justin Tyler, Brock Veale, Jonathan Martin, Jacob Martin, Sam Newton, Jack Newton, and Caleb Mallory; as well as her aunt, Carol Thomesen Giedinghagen from West Palm, FL.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 o'clock Thursday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. Everyone is invited to attend but will be asked to abide by the state's recommendations of wearing masks and social distancing to provide a safe environment for all. The family will hold a private memorial service at a future date.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of MSA Hospice, as well as Dr. Merrit and his crew at South Carolina Oncology Associates who gave Carol her chemotherapy treatment with love and care.
