Carole Rumpke Myers, known as "Peaches", 87, of West Columbia, passed peacefully on Thursday January 5, 2023. She was a member of the Church of the Apostles in Columbia. A Lexington County resident for over 50 years, she lived her last eight years at Laurel Crest Retirement Center. Carole was born in Cincinnati, OH, on May 30, 1935, to Carl Clarence Rumpke and Corinne Meyer Rumpke. She attended Cincinnati public schools and began working at General Electric while attending business school. While at GE in June of 1955, she met the love of her life, Dewey (Dee) Myers, Jr.. They married on December 17, 1955 and would spend the next sixty years together until his death in 2016.
For many years Carole was a member and office-holder in Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a women's philanthropic sorority. She served on the board of Lexington County Library for over 10 years, during which time the Main Library was built and, thanks largely to her efforts, the Library Gift Shop was opened. Carole loved to cook and entertain. She and Dee were known for their Christmas luncheons and drop-ins, ESA dinners, and family celebrations.
They were blessed with three children, C. Blake Myers (Cynthia) of Redding, California, Suzanne Myers Sutton (Bret) of Camden, South Carolina; and Amy Myers Sabin (Eric) of Columbia. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, whom she loved "More than all the stars in the skies in all the world and that's a lot!" They are W. Sam Myers of Salt Lake City, Utah, Alexandra Caroline Myers of Columbia, Rebecca Sutton Hunter (Matt) of Greenville, South Carolina, Christina Elizabeth Sabin of Athens, Georgia, Alyssa Joy Sabin of Wilson, North Carolina, and Amanda Sabin Price (Jonathan) of North Charleston. Additional survivors are dear sisters, Connie Sue Munz (Robert) of Naples, Florida and Crystal V. Huster (Greg) of Cincinnati, Ohio. Her nieces and nephews, too numerous to list, each held special places in her heart. In the words of one, "Peaches was the yarn that knitted us together."
The funeral service for Mrs. Myers will be held at 10 o'clock on Saturday, January 14th at Church of the Apostles, 1520 Bull St, Columbia, SC 29201. The family will receive friends and host a reception following the funeral service at the church.
Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Oliver Gospel Mission, 1100 Taylor St, Columbia, SC 29201 or by visiting OliverGospel.org.
