Mrs. Jones, daughter of Caroline Simons and Isaac Jenkins Mikell, MD, was born on October 11, 1938 in Columbia. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1956 (voted "Most Likely to Succeed") and Agnes Scott College in 1960, as a member of Mortar Board and Chi Beta Phi (Science Honorary). In 1979, she obtained her nursing degree to fulfill her dream of serving in the medical field. She married Joseph Duffy Jones on New Year's Eve in 1959 and began a career as wife, mother, and family coordinator. She was also a "relocation specialist," living in seven cities before returning to Columbia in 1993.
Her memberships in the Junior League and Presbyterian churches introduced her to many wonderful, lifelong friends. At First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, she was the former President of the Women of the Church and an Honorary Life Member. She also enjoyed memberships in the Colonial Dames, the New Century Club, the Palmetto Garden Club of South Carolina, and serving as President of The Assembly.
Edisto Island was a special place to Caroline. She grew up on St. Pierre Creek and met "Joe Duffy" there as a teenager. She delighted in introducing her daughters and their families to the creek, and loved their time together there.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson Joseph Jones Moorman. She is survived by her husband, and children, Kirsten Jones Moorman (John), Elizabeth Jones Beal (Michael), Gail Jones Searcy (Steve) all of Columbia, and her grandchildren, John Heslep Moorman III (Haley), Pinkney Beal Henderson (Noah), Michael McNulty Beal, Jr., Caroline Simons Moorman, Joseph Duffy Beal, Patrick Noble Searcy, Elizabeth Jennings Searcy, Jones Taylor Searcy, and her brothers Isaac Jenkins Mikell, Jr. (Alicia) and Pinkney Venning Mikell (Laura).
