Ms. Caroline Whitmire Todd, age 82, of Columbia, SC, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016, in the Pisgah Manor retirement facility near Asheville, NC. Caroline was a retired social worker for the South Carolina Protection and Advocacy System for the Handicapped. She was born in Atlanta, GA on August 31, 1933, and was the youngest of four children born to Joseph Petty Whitmire of Pulaski, TN and Caroline Primrose Brennan of Atlanta, GA. Her brothers, Joseph, Jonathan, and Bohler Whitmire were also from Columbia, SC.

Caroline's family moved to Columbia, SC when she was two years old, and she lived in Columbia until her marriage to U. S. Air Force pilot, husband and father of their six children, Lt. Col. William Reed Todd, Jr., with whom she travelled the world. She and her family lived in a number of states and in Japan, but her heart always remained true to South Carolina. That is clearly evident by the book she and her dear friend, Ms. Sidney Smith Wait, wrote together, titled, "South Carolina A Day at a Time" which was written as a tour guide for traveling the beautiful backroads of South Carolina.

Caroline spent most of her younger years teaching. She taught art to children and adults of all ages, and in many different settings, for many years in Greenwood, SC. Caroline taught at Lander College, the University of South Carolina, Greenwood YMCA, and for the art store, Squirrel's Nest. All of which took place while raising her six children. She was and will always be a truly remarkable and amazing woman.

Caroline is survived by her six children, William Reed Todd of Asheville, NC, Jonathan Edward Todd of Columbia, SC, Caroline Todd McQuillan Pearson and husband, Robert, of Jamestown, TN, Stephen Bradley Todd and wife, Trish, of Columbia, SC, Susan Todd Brook and husband, Matthew, of Annapolis, MD, Cynthia Lee Todd of Asheville, NC; six grandchildren, William Reed Todd and wife, Lauren, of Charlotte, NC, Todd Robert McQuillan formerly of NY, Alan James McQuillan of Atlanta, GA, Zachary Michael Todd of Columbia, SC, Virginia Ann Marie Todd of Asheville, NC, Brian Todd Fuchs of Annapolis, MD; one great-grandson, William Whitmire Todd of Charlotte, NC; as well as countless nieces and nephews.
