Carolyn Wallace Luker, 85, of Columbia, the wife of the late James Morris Luker, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Born December 17, 1936, in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Luther Martin Wallace, Sr., and Thadus Raines.
Carolyn graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School and was selected as a representative to Girls State and was elected "Most Intellectual" by her classmates. She was a graduate of Winthrop College with a degree in elementary education and later received an advanced degree in Finance. Carolyn married James in Congaree Presbyterian Church in December 1958. They were the first couple to be married in the church. She served her Lord and was passionate about her church.
Carolyn and her husband, during their 60 years of marriage, were foster parents to 14 children. She was an avid reader and loved to travel, often with a group of their square dance friends.
Carolyn is survived by her three grandsons, Alexander James Luker, Matthew Tanner Luker, Ryan Christopher Luker; daughter-in-law, Beatrice M. Luker; and cousin, Patricia Mack Harvin. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Kenneth Martin Luker; daughter, Patrice Michelle Luker; and brother, Luther Martin Wallace, Jr.
