Carolyn Maddox McDonald, 78, of Columbia, died August 5, 2017. Born in McCormick, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ray Clarence and Evelyn Walker Maddox. Carolyn was married to Charley McDonald and was a loving mother and grandmother who was deeply devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ. For over 40 years, she was a member of Maple Street Southern Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, served in several capacities in the women's ministry, and supported foreign missions work. Most recently she was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Columbia and was active in the Forest Acres Women to Women Bible Study for many years.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Charley Cecil McDonald; daughters, Susan McDonald Wood (Wallace) of Parksville, SC and Loretta McDonald Crider (Rick, deceased) of Lancaster, PA; son, Joel Edward McDonald (Suzanne) of Hohenfels, Germany; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; a brother-in-law, John Langley of McCormick, SC and a host of other loving relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Alexander McDonald; sisters, Rachel Heenan, Barbara Langley; and brother, Curtis Maddox.
The service for Mrs. McDonald will be held at 2 o'clock, Saturday, August 12th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC with Dr. Derek W.H. Thomas and the Rev. David H. Lauten officiating. Burial will be private at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Methodist Foreign Missions, 541 Broughton Avenue, Orangeburg, SC 29115.
