Rev. Cecil Marvin Bayne, 89, of Columbia, died Saturday, November 2, 2019. Born in Fort Mill, SC, on April 5, 1930, he was a son of the late Grady and Betty Jones Bayne. As a 20-year retiree from the United States Army, Cecil served in Korea and Vietnam earning numerous decorations. Following his military service, he managed three Western Auto stores and Car Quest. Eventually he was called to the ministry, where he served at Pastor of Winnsboro Wesleyan Church and Northeast Wesleyan Church of Columbia. He was a member of Covenant Community Fellowship and former member of Gideons International. Above all, Cecil cherished God and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Iris Dover Bayne; children, Terry Bayne (Teresa), Penny Harris (Carroll), Dale Bayne, Rodney Bayne (Nicole); grandchildren, David Gibbs (Danielle), Christopher Bayne (Amanda), Preston Bayne, Brooke Bayne, Erin Lowery (James); great-grandchildren, Hunter Lowery and Waylon Lowery; brother, Kenneth Bayne. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amanda Janelle Gibbs; and a sister, Nellie Talbert.
The funeral service for Rev. Bayne will be held 10:30 o'clock, Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with Pastor Kent D. Small and Pastor Greg Sweet, Sr. officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at the funeral home.
