Cecil Phillips, 85, of Columbia, widower of Jacquelin Park Phillips, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Agape Hospice House. A service of remembrance will be conducted 2 o'clock, Wednesday, April 8th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Rd Ext, Columbia. The family will greet friends following the service. A private burial will take place at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Phillips was born on July 25, 1929 in Aiken, SC, the son of the late Admiral Dewey Phillips and Mattie (Phillips) Gunter. He was a World War II veteran of the US Army, serving in the Philippines. He received an honorable discharge when the war ended, and became a civilian employee at Ft. Jackson, retiring with over 40 years of service in Post Engineers' Department. Mr. Phillips was a member of Bayview Baptist Church. He loved his family, sports, his house on Lake Murray, and was an avid hunter.
He leaves behind a son, Cecil (Jill) Phillips; and two daughters, Teresa (Will) Powell and Patricia (Bob) Perry; three grandchildren, Cecil Phillips, Phillip Perry and Heather Berridge; two great grandchildren, Summer Ann Berridge and Autumn Crumpton; three sisters, Mary Spires, Ann (Paul) Smith, Martha (Buddy) Hendrix; three brothers, A.D. (Ony) Fred (Ann) and Bobby (Patsy) Phillips. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Robert D. Perry, Jr. and Brittany Powell; four brothers, Junior, Wyman, Franklin and Pee Wee Phillips; and his sister, Thelma Smith.
