Charles William "Bill" Cox, 89, of Columbia, died Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Born June 13, 1934, in Richmond, Virginia, he was a son of the late Clarence Eli and Clyde Castle Rook Cox. Mr. Cox was a graduate of Virginia Tech University where earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He enjoyed a career that spanned more than three decades in the steel manufacturing industry. During that time, he was employed in various roles with Bethlehem Steel and SMI Steel LLC.

Mr. Cox loved being outdoors in his spare time. He was an avid hunter who especially enjoyed wing shooting. Mr. Cox stayed physically active by playing league tennis and golfing. He was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church, where he was active in the George Huggins Upper Room Sunday school class. Mr. Cox served his community through his membership in the Columbia Golden K Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Stuart Ann Cox; sons, Charles Douglas Cox (Sue) of Eagen, MN and Stuart David Cox of Brillion, WI. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Benjamin Cox, Joshua Cox, Katie Cox Clark (Stephen), Madilyn Cox, and Ella Cox, as well as his great grandchildren, Fletcher and Penelope Clark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Dean Cox.

The memorial service for Mr. Cox will be held at 3 o'clock, Monday, August 21st, at Shandon United Methodist Church with Rev. Smoke Kanipe officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Player Hall.
