Charles Roland Melton, Jr., 86, of Columbia, died Monday, May 14, 2018. Born March 13, 1932 in Hartsville, SC, he was a son of the late Charles Roland Melton, Sr. and Mary Lou Usher Melton. Mr. Melton worked for over 50 years in the furniture business at both Kimbrell's and Bridges Furniture Stores where most people knew him as "Charlie". He loved working in his yard and was very proud of the 100 azaleas he grew himself. Mr. Melton will forever be remembered as a devoted husband and father.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen L. Bailey of Columbia; his step-children, Larry E. Hodge (Linda) of Hartsville, Vicki A. Mears (Wayne) of Darlington; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Brenda Blaney and Barbara Rochleau; as well as his brother, Scott Melton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Hodge Melton; and sister, Betty Lou Warren.

The funeral service for Mr. Melton, will be held 11 o'clock, Friday, May 18th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Interment with military honors will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 0'clock.
