Charles "Chuck" Spears, Sr., 66, of Gaston, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Born November 5, 1946 in Bell, Florida, he was a son of the late Willie and Thelma Harper Spears. Mr. Spears served in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict, and was awarded the Bronze Star. Chuck was a pressman for The State newspaper for over 30 years, and was a longtime member of the House of Faith Church in Gaston. He loved cooking for church events and fishing. Chuck will be remembered as a very loving husband and father.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Parker Spears; son, Charles (Judy) Spears, Jr.; his granddaughter whom he loved with all his heart, Rachel Spears; brother Willie Spears, Jr.; and sister, Frances Santerfeit, both of Florida. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his son, W. Samson Spears.
The funeral service for Mr. Spears will be held 12 o'clock Saturday, August 17th, at House of Faith Church, 141 New Cassel Drive, Gaston, with The Rev. Floyd Mosley and The Rev. Clarence Boney officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Friday evening, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
