Charles Rembert Clark, 74, of Columbia, passed away, Sunday, October 28, 2012 after a brief illness. Born in Winnsboro, SC on August 28, 1928, he was a son of the late James E. and Annie M. Cooper Clark.
After graduating from Mt. Zion Institute in Winnsboro, SC, Charles attended the University of South Carolina, and later graduated from the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, Louisville, KY. Charles retired from the Columbia Police Department on July 1, 2002 after 40 years of service, serving as Chief during his last year.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne T. Clark; two brothers, James Edwin "Ed" (Becky Jo) Clark of Seneca, and Timothy "Tim" Cooper Clark of Chapin; two nieces, Teresa C. (David) Gray, Dr. Melissa C. (Roy) Janse; a nephew, Davis E. (Tina) Clark; three great nieces, Ashley, Casey, Christy; four great nephews, Clark, Carter, Cooper, Bentley.
A graveside service for Chief Clark will be held at 3 o'clock, Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, with Chaplain Clyde Waters officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Columbia Police Department Foundation, P. O. Box 1059, Columbia, SC 29201. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
