Christine McBride Mathias, 84, of Columbia, died Thursday, September 6, 2012. Born April 13, 1928 in Savannah, GA, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Samuel McBride and Sarah Boyles McBride. A member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church she was a lover of nature, outdoors, plants and animals, especially frogs. She had a green thumb, was a member of Young at Heart and loved traveling on church trips with her friends.

Survivors include her daughters, Julie Christine (Gerald) Himes of Lugoff, Sara Lois Cooper of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Robin Louise Mathias of Columbia; sons, Samuel Julian Mathias, Jr. of Red Bank, John McBride Mathias of Charleston; sisters, Jessie McBride (Steve) Hornsby and Josephine McBride Cory, both of Columbia; granddaughters, Alison B. Cooper-Simko and Elaine Smith; great-granddaughter, Arianna Simko; sisters-in-law, Margie C. Woods and Betty L. Mathias, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mathias was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Julian Mathias, Sr.; brothers, Manning Woods, Curtis B. Woods and Albert Woods; a sister Julia Woods Boney.

A funeral service for Mrs. Mathias will be held at 11 o'clock Monday, September 10, 2012 at Crescent Hill Baptist Church with The Rev. Lee Butler officiating. A private interment will be held Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 Sunday afternoon at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC.
