Claire Sydelle Weiss Breger, 89, of Columbia, died in Asheville, NC, on Friday, January 27, 2023. Born in New York, NY, on May 7, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Mordecai and Elsie Weiss. Mrs. Breger was raised in Miami Beach, FL where she met and married her husband of 65 years, the late Dr. Gerald Breger. They settled in Columbia, SC where they raised their two children. Mrs. Breger and her family were active members of Beth Shalom Synagogue for more than 50 years. She loved nothing more than her community in Columbia and she cherished the friendships she made over the years.

Survivors include her daughter, Marlene Breger-Joyce, of Asheville, NC; son, Mark Breger (Tatiana), of Malaysia; granddaughters, Amy Sosebee (Andrew) and Annie Choi (John); as well as three great-grandchildren, Graceyn and Madelyn Sosebee, and Carter Choi. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Gerald Breger

The graveside service for Mrs. Breger will be held at 11 o'clock, Sunday, January 29th, at Beth Shalom, Arcadia Lakes Cemetery, 1401 Arcadia Lakes Dr., Columbia, with Rabbi Jonathan Case officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
