Mr. Clarence E. Raines, 86, of Columbia, died Sunday, February 22, 2015. Born in Blythewood on April 26, 1928, he was a son of the late Ernest and Evelyn Neeley Raines. A proud veteran of the US Army, he worked for 40 years with Columbia Mills. Mr. Raines had a wonderful talent for music, and he enjoyed playing harmonica until the time of his death.
Mr. Raines is survived by daughters, Carolyn R. Sightler, Deborah R. Looney, Georgia Davis (Richard), and Joye Sanchez (Modesto); sons, Curtis E. Raines (Tonya), and David J. Raines (Elaine); brothers, Furman G. Raines and Joseph Raines; grandchildren, Chad and Wendy Sightler, Susan and Brian Looney, Jessica and Steven Davis, Gabriel and Hosea Sanchez, Anthony Moreno, and Christopher and Alexandria Raines; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Curtis Raines; and sisters, Laura Mathis, Portia Loner, Ollie Steadman, and Bertha Youngier.
A funeral service for Mr. Raines will be held at 11 o'clock, Thursday, February 26th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. Burial will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, from 10 until 11 o'clock.
