Claude Earnest Broughton, Jr., 70, of Columbia, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016. Born in Columbia on July 14, 1945, he was a son of Lou Henry Deese Broughton and the late Claude Earnest Broughton, Sr. Claude was a member of Royal Pines Church and worked with Diamond Pools and Crystal Pools and later founded and was co-owner of Broughton-Wommack Pools, Inc. for over 40 years. Following his retirement he worked with Columbia Fire and Safety for nine years.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Bobbie Hall Broughton; mother, Lou Henry Deese Broughton; children, Lisa Renee Brown (Dickie) of Myrtle Beach, Angela Denise Purvis (Allen) of Myrtle Beach, Kenneth O'Dale Hall (Crystal) of Columbia, Donald D'Wayne Prochaska (Mary) of Cleveland, OH, C. Earnest Broughton, III (Rosemary) of Columbia, Renee Hall Weaver (Sean) of Beaufort, SC, Heather Ralston of Columbia; a brother, Mitchell Broughton of Columbia; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Claude was preceded in death by his father, Claude Earnest Broughton, Sr.
A funeral service will be held 1 o'clock, Saturday, January 9th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road, Columbia, with The Rev. Nancy Brazell officiating. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock at the funeral home.
