Born on January 1, 1937, in Columbia, South Carolina, Daddy, known to all as "Dobbie", was the only child of R. A. "Pe-Paw" and Virginia "Me-Maw" Shealy. He met the love of his life, Gail, and married her on April 3, 1958 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church while she was on Spring break from Dreher High School. Of this union were born four children: Melinda, Lisa, Claude, Jr. "Chip" and Lori. Daddy worked hard all his life so Mom could stay home and raise their children. He worked for thirty-seven years as a senior accountant at the SC State Treasurer's Office, but his true passion was America and the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country and received multiple awards during his many years of service at McEntire Air National Guard Base, including the South Carolina Meritorious Service Medal.
Dobbie is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Gail Lusk Shealy; children, Melinda (Coulter) Cotton, Lisa Shealy and fiancé, Rex Wicker, Claude A. "Chip" Shealy, Jr., Tayna Warsheski, Lori (David) Parker, Todd Shealy; grandchildren, Kayla (Ryan) Evans, Scott (Elizabeth) Parker, Erin Shealy and fiancé, Matt Forsell, Ethan (Lyndsay) Shealy, Emma Shealy, and Michael Cotton. Dobbie was the proud great grandfather of Harper Grace and Jackson Theodore.
A special thank you to Amedysis Hospice who allowed Dobbie's wish to be fulfilled so he could pass at home with his family at his side.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, the honor of your presence or your prayers be bestowed upon us. We invite you to share your messages and memories online at ShivesFuneralHome.com.
