Obituary

It is with utter sadness, yet great joy, that the family of Clint Baker announce that on January 6, 2024, he relinquished his short fight with cancer, leaving his mortal body and entering the arms of Jesus Christ.

Those who were blessed enough to know Clint will remember his smile, his charm and his dedication to family and friends. He would literally give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He lived out his life serving others, without being asked.

He was quick to laugh, hardworking, steadfast, and happy to share his 'always right' opinion. He never stopped working, never stopped helping others and when asked for something, he could never say no. A perfect day for him was hunting with his son, grandchildren, and friends, and a lemon pie baked by Doris.

Fun facts about Clint:
• He was rarely seen without his Stetson on his head, to the point that some people didn't recognize him without it.
• For 50 plus years, he spent part of each Fall in Colorado as an Elk Hunter and Guide.
• He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa in a log cabin.
• Both of his parents were pastors.
• At the age of 15 his family moved to Columbia when his parents took over the pastoral duties of a church.
• He met his wife, Doris, who was the pianist in that church, and they were married 7 years later (1956) while he was serving at Ft Bliss in Texas.
• All 3 of his children were born in Lubbock, Tx.
• He loved Christmas decorations and all the season encompassed.
• His favorite phrase was "Whatever".
• He threatened to write a book titled "Starting Monday…"

He was loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed. Our sorrow and grief are outweighed by the knowledge that today, he is in the Kingdom of Heaven for all Eternity.

We would like to thank the Medical Teams that assisted Clint and his family through his battle with cancer - the staffs of Dr. Kasim Mirza of MUSC, Dr. Robert Collins, III and Dr. Brandon Stone of South Carolina Oncology Associates, and Dr. Erik Hartvigsen, MDVIP.

With all our hearts, we thank Hearts of Hospice, including his care team, Kaley, Robin, and Chaplain Princetta, for the care and dedication they gave to Clint and his family during the last several weeks of his life.

He is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Doris Jean Hyatt Baker; his children, Sherry Baker, Stacy Lane Baker, both of Columbia and his son, Donald Lee Baker, Sr (Genia) of Manning; his grandchildren, Mary Hyatt Grant (Colin) of Aiken, and Donald Lee Baker, Jr (Holly) of Greenville; his great-grandchildren, Baker Mackenzie Grant, and Presley Jean Grant (Due to arrive early March 2024), both of Aiken; his sisters, Mary Lou MacAlister (Don) of Hayesville, NC and Shirley Little of Grapevine, TX; his sisters-in-law, Dee Baker of Ottumwa. IA, Eunice Hyatt Medlin (James) of Elgin, and Diane Hyatt Kirkland of Lugoff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews scattered across the country.

He was pre-deceased by his brothers, John Baker, and Bob Baker, both of Ottumwa, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Avis Hyatt of Lugoff; and 2 brothers-in-law, John Little of Grapevine, TX, and Stan Kirkland of Lugoff.
