Clyde Earl Linder, Retired S.C Patrol Captain, died on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Born in Spartanburg, SC in 1933, he was a son of the late Lester I. and Nola Blanche Linder of Cowpens, SC. He was preceded in death by his two brothers and three sisters. Mr. Linder enlisted in the US Navy on October 3, 1951 and served onboard the USS Linderwald LSD 6 and the Burdo APD 133. Upon his discharge he was employed by the Cowpens Police Department where he served until his employment in February 1957 with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. After his commission as a South Carolina Highway Patrolman he was assigned to Richland County Patrolling Broad River Road. In 1961, he was assigned to the driver license division and served there until 1964 when he transferred to patrol supply. Mr. Linder served in patrol supply until his retirement in 1991 attaining the rank of Captain. After his retirement he was employed as a bid specialist for Hamilton and Associates who represented various Law Enforcement Suppliers. He later represented Safariland calling on Law Enforcement agencies throughout South Carolina.
Mr. Linder was an avid gardener and woodworker. He was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church and was active in Habitat for Humanity through the church habitat group. He was a member of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Association and the SC Troopers Association.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Betty Jane Starnes Linder; step children, Becky Jackson (Chuck) of Irmo and Bobby Brooks of Chapin; grandchildren, Brooke Sprayberry (Brice) of Mt. Pleasant, Ben Brooks (Laura) of Chapin and Barrett Brooks (Madison) of Chapin. He was predeceased by his grandson, Blake Brooks of Chapin. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Drew and Ellison Sprayberry, Brodie, Bauer and Barron Brooks, Berkley Brooks and Henry Brooks.
The funeral service for Captain Linder will be held at 11 o'clock, Wednesday, July 20th, at St. Andrews Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald "Dee" Vaughan officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 10 o'clock. Burial will follow the service at Midway Presbyterian Church Cemetery, New Zion, SC, at 3 o'clock.
