Cody Scott Spears

Cody Scott Spears, 31, of Elgin, SC, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026. Born on July 30, 1994, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he was the son of Rev. Barry Spears and DeeDee Spears.

Cody’s life revolved around God, country, church, family, and friends. He was a member of Sonrise Baptist Church in Columbia, where he used his exceptional musical talents playing bass guitar and piano. He had a love for trucks and motorcycles, often going on adventures to explore the surrounding countryside. Cody valued his family and friends and cherished every moment spent with each of them. His greatest joy was fatherhood, and he was profoundly excited to welcome his first son into the world.

In addition to his parents, Cody is survived by his wife, Katherine Ali Truesdale Spears; daughter, Faith Marie Spears, his soon-to-arrive son, River Kade Spears; sister, Alexis Leigh Jowers (Clay); his grandmothers, Sharon "Mammy" Spears and Jerri "Grancie" Brown; and his mother-in-law, Allie Frances Truesdale. Cody’s life was further enriched by a host of other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Blair Nicole Spears; grandfathers, Randall “Pappaw” Spears, Sr. and Papa Brown; as well as his father-in-law, Donald "Red" Truesdale.

The funeral to celebrate Cody's life will be held at 4 o’clock Sunday, April 19th, at Sonrise Baptist Church, 4930 Alpine Road, Columbia, SC. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 3 o'clock at the church.
