COL Ancil Reed Pressley, US Army (Ret.), 90, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022. Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on February 19, 1932, he was a son of the late Clyde Gurneth Pressley and Elizabeth Ann Pressley Williams.
Press, as he was known by, was the loving husband to Alice Kresky Pressley. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served in both Korea and Vietnam. His responsible and dependable work ethic led to his promotion to Colonel in 1979. Press earned his bachelor's degree from University of Arkansas and throughout the years, continued to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered by the Army.
In his free time, Press enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and traveling, He was a skilled cook and passed down his famous recipes to his children. All who knew Press were bound to love him. His friendly, genuine personality and witty sense of humor will be missed by many.
He is survived by his children, Tara Pressley and Troy Pressley; his sister, Thelma Ann Jones; his grandchildren, Sara Pressley, Mia Pressley, Liv Jarskog, Neo Jarskog and Tess Jarskog. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother Gurneth.
The graveside service for COL Pressley will be held at 12 o'clock on Tuesday, December 27th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC, where full military honors will be rendered. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
