Craig Allen Moats, 66, of Elgin, died on Sunday, December 24, 2023. Born in Neubruke, Germany, on October 5, 1957, he was a son of the late Paul Raymond and Anita Guth Moats. Mr. Moats was a graduate of Spring Valley High School and worked in construction for Sloan Construction and later the US Group before working in Security with Richland School District Two. He was a member of Jackson Creek Baptist Church.
Craig loved camping and fishing, but as his disease progressed, he was unable to do either. He enjoyed spending time with the great grandchildren. Family was very important to him. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Newton Moats; daughter, Shana Chappell; son, Joe Chappell (Alexandra); father and mother-in-law, Bob and Becky Newton; grandchildren, Grayson Sanders (Jennifer), Brandon Sanders (Katie), Garin Chappell and Colin Chappell; great-grandchildren, Riley and Walker Sanders; brother and sisters, Glenn Moats, Debbie Chandler and Diane Rochester; and nephews, Michael, Christopher, niece Angela. Craig also had several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald Moats and Rodger Moats.
The funeral service for Mr. Moats will be held at 2 o'clock, Saturday, December 30th, at Jackson Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock at the Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens of Columbia. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
