Donnie Eugene Carpenter, 72, of Hopkins, SC, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024. Born on April 1, 1952, in Lincolnton, NC, he was a man who dedicated his life to service, both in his career and personal life.
CSM (Ret) Donnie Carpenter honorably served the US Army for 28 years, demonstrating steadfast dedication and unwavering leadership. His military career was marked by valor and a commitment to his fellow servicemen and women. Following his retirement from the military, Donnie continued to serve his community and church with the same passion.
A devout member of the Korean Methodist Church of Columbia, Donnie was deeply involved in church activities, contributing his time and energy to various church functions. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his actions and relationships.
Donnie was a beloved husband to Hye Son Choi Carpenter, a loving father to his son, Timothy Allen Carpenter and daughter-in-law Jill Sonja McLees Carpenter, and a cherished grandfather to Erin, Bailey, and Camille. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Juanita Carpenter. Donnie was the eldest of 9 and helped to care for his siblings. Donnie's family was the center of his world, and he cherished the moments spent with them, whether it was gardening at home, riding his Harley Davidson, or simply enjoying family gatherings.
An avid gardener, Donnie took great pride in his garden, which was a testament to his patience and dedication. His love for riding his Harley Davidson was well known among his friends and family, bringing him much joy and freedom.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 11 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at Shives Funeral Home beginning at 10 o'clock. Donnie will be laid to rest at 1 o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Korean Methodist Church of Columbia or the Big Red Barn Retreat, honoring Donnie's commitment to his faith and community. Donnie's legacy of love, service, and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew him.
