Daniel Frank Leach, 65, of Cayce, died Thursday, August 17, 2023, in Columbia. He was born to the late Frank and Alma Leach on October 16, 1957, in Columbia.

Daniel grew up in the Olympia area of Columbia and attended Olympia schools in his younger years. He was a carpenter by trade and began building boats at a young age. After leaving Sunbird Boats in the 1990's, he began to work for Hinson Cabinet Company, doing commercial and residential renovations. Upon leaving, he and his brother started a cabinet business, L&L Cabinetry, in the Columbia area. Later in his career, he did carpentry and renovation work for the South Carolina National Guard buildings around the state.

Going to the ball fields was one of his favorite pastimes, and he loved his Gamecocks. His most loved sports were the ones that featured his grandchildren. He went to all their games and was their biggest fan and cheerleader. He enjoyed fishing and being outside. Going to the beach with his family was a great enjoyment for him. He was known as a selfless man that loved to help others. He never met a stranger and loved to laugh and joke around with everyone. He was always there to lend a hand and never expected anything in return. He deeply loved his grandchildren and was known to them as "Poppy." Mr. Leach will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Dianne Loop; brother, Robert Leach; and son-in-law, Eric Shell.

He is survived by his daughters, Amanda Shell and Sherry Ray (David); grandchildren, Ansley Shell, Landon Shell, and Ashlynn Ray; and Mary Leach, former wife, mother of his children, and lifelong friend.

We would like to thank his team of doctors and nurses at Prisma Richland Heart Hospital for all their support and care they gave to him over the years and until he went in peace.

The memorial service for Mr. Leach will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 2 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Rd. Ext., Columbia, SC 29223. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
