Danny Eugene Gunter, 80, of Blythewood, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015. Born July 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Floyd and Elizabeth Marthers Gunter of Ridgeway. He was a member of Pine View Baptist Church. Danny was employed by Sears for 42 years until his retirement in 1998. He was a softball umpire for many years working in the city and county parks. Danny loved working outdoors, landscaping and planting a garden. He was an avid vegetable and flower gardener and was noted for his beautiful zinnias which were displayed in many homes during family illnesses.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rebecca Bass Gunter; daughters, Teresa Carrozza and Kathy Helfgott (Eric); grandchildren, Michael Craig Lee, Alaina White Kremer (Clay), Travis Lucas (Angel), Ashleigh Lee Keys (Curt), Kayla White Jones (Lyon), Matthew Carrozza, and Alan White who was constantly by his side during his illness; great grandchildren, Michael and Joshua Lee, Ryan Sowler, Brittany and Austin Kremer, Alyssa and Zoey Lucas, Trey Keys and Lily Jones. He is also survived by a sister, Connie Gunter Hall (Stewart); brother, Luther Gunter (Anneleise) of New Smyrna Beach, FL; and son in-law, Al White.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Vicky "Red" White; sons-in-law, John Lucas and Bill Carrozza; brothers, James, Burley, John, Warren, Elvin and Mitchell Gunter; sisters, Eva Snyder and Lillian Detore; and niece, Elizabeth Andrews.
A memorial service will be held 2 o'clock on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. The Rev. Dean Reynolds will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 o'clock.
