Danny Gene Potter, 63, of Columbia, died Thursday, September 20, 2012. Born in Williston, SC, on October 1, 1948, he was a son of Margaret Johnson Potter and the late Jay Burton Potter, Sr. Danny grew up in Monks Corner and graduated from Berkley High School, Class of 1967, where he played varsity football. He earned an associate's degree from Columbia Commercial College in 1969, and then worked as a terminal manager in the trucking industry for various companies in North and South Carolina. Danny served in the National Guard from 1969 to 1975. He indulged his lifelong love of fishing by working as a guide during his high school and college years. Danny recently returned to Columbia to be near his grandchildren.
Survivors include his mother of Monks Corner; daughters, Wendi Potter Lynn and her husband, Phillip, of Beaufort, and Robin Potter Price of Columbia; grandchildren, Marian Margaret "Margot" Price, Artency "Tency" Lashley Lynn, "Thomas" Boss Congdon Price, Jr., Robert "Sellers" Lynn II; and brother, Jay Burton Potter, Jr. of Monks Corner.
A memorial service will be held 11 o'clock Saturday, September 22nd at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia, after which the family will greet friends in the Stirling Room. Memorials may be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Ln, Centennial, CO 80112. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
