Darrell Ray Knoblock, 61, of Irmo, lost his courageous battle with cancer, Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Lexington Medical Center, while surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Darrell was born on July 14, 1950, in Trenton, New Jersey and grew up in Salisbury, North Carolina. Darrell was a son of the late Sarah Beatrice Knoblock and Paul Knoblock. Darrell was preceded in death by his brother Delma Knoblock and his sister Deborah Morrell.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sue Goodwin Knoblock; three sons, Brian (Laura) Knoblock of Chapin, Jason Knoblock of Columbia and Kevin Hall of Salisbury, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Lauren Knoblock of Chapin and a host of loving family and friends.
Darrell retired from the US Army in December of 1990. He served two tours in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star. He worked for Coburg Dairy after his retirement from the Army.
He was a member of Eau Claire Baptist Church, where he served as a church deacon and youth leader. He was a member of the Sharon Derrick Sunday School Class. Darrell was a dedicated, faithful Christian man who truly loved his church, family and friends. Darrell was a devoted Gamecock fan and an avid golfer.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 17, 2012 from 5 until 7 at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. Services to honor the life of Darrell will be held at 12:30 o'clock, Monday, June 18, 2012 at Eau Claire Baptist Church. The Rev. James Goudelock and The Rev. Kelly Strum will officiate. Interment will follow in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be, Billy Peagler, Corey Hayes, Kevin Eaddy, Michael Butler, Eric Newton and Mark Goudelock. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Eau Claire Baptist Church.
