Dartha Todd "Dot" Peterson, 91, of Columbia, died Monday, August 22, 2016. Born November 30, 1924 in Loris, SC she was the second oldest of nine children to the late Edward Dalton and Mary Magdalene Canady Todd.

Mrs. Peterson moved to Columbia in June of 1951 and on August 28, 1953 married the love of her life, the late Charles Andrew Peterson, Sr. She was the owner/operator of Dot's Day Care for over 19 years. Dot was a former member of Harrison Road Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 47 years, and was involved in GA's and the WMU. Mrs. Peterson joined North Trenholm Road Baptist Church in January 2005. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1969.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Williams (Gene) of Columbia; sons, Charles Peterson, Jr. (Robin), and William "Bill" Peterson (Lynn); six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild. Also surviving is a sister, Shelva Stephens. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her siblings, Lucius Barney Todd, Ben Clifford Todd, John Paul Todd, William Edward Todd, Brittie Causey, Hazel Mollet and Myrtie Barnhill.
A funeral service will be held 10 o'clock, Thursday, August 25th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 7 o'clock at the funeral home.
